International Law - Latin America & Asia
AlvaradoSmith’s International Law practice group assists international clients in a wide range of international business matters. Many of our International Law attorneys have been appointed to key roles such as California’s Honorary Ambassador to both Ensenada and Tijuana, Mexico, the White House Office of Hispanic Affairs, and have served as Director of the California-Mexico Trade Assistance Center.
AlvaradoSmith was awarded the International Business Award by the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in 2010 and has been recognized by several organizations and publications for its excellence in this particular field. Further the Firm has many attorneys who are bilingual in languages including Spanish, French and Korean.
Our International Law Practice Group has a particular emphasis on Latin America with over 20 years of experience working on transactions and development projects between the United States and Mexico, and the Firm has also coordinated and led business and governmental trade delegations to and from Mexico.
Many of the group's attorneys have lived in the Latin American region. This knowledge of Latin business customs allows our attorneys to communicate, negotiate and successfully represent U.S. businesses expanding into the region and Latin American businesses looking for strategic alliances, a direct presence in the U.S. or representation in litigation.
Our International Law practice group routinely represents parties including financial institutions, manufacturers and businesses, exporters/importers, investors, developers and foreign state agencies in international litigation matters. Our team of attorneys is well-versed in the complex issues that arise in such disputes such as jurisdictional/extraterritoriality issues, conflicts of laws issues and the gathering of evidence abroad. We counsel on behalf of clients involved in concurrent global proceedings in various foreign jurisdictions such as France, Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan and Australia.
